What to Expect

Most customers arrive not knowing exactly what they want. That's the normal starting point and it's precisely what the consultation is designed for. We'll walk through your options together - style, color, fiber type, fit - in plain language, without any pressure to decide before you're ready.

Many customers leave the same day in the perfect wig. About half of our solutions are special orders - the right style, color, or construction isn't always on the floor, and we'd rather get it right than put you in something that's almost right. Special orders typically arrive within a week.

A $50 consultation fee is required at booking. This fee is credited in full toward any future purchase.

Choose Your Consultation Type

Standard Consultation - 60 Minutes

The right starting point for most new customers. We'll cover your options thoroughly, find your style, handle the fitting, and make sure you leave with everything you need. The majority of our new customers find their solution within this appointment.

Extended Consultation - 90 Minutes

Recommended for customers managing a medical condition, significant thinning, or anyone who will need a full cranial prosthesis or custom hairpiece. The additional time allows us to build a complete plan around your specific situation, explore every option available to you, and address anything that comes up along the way. If you're not sure which to book, book the 90-minute. We'd rather have more time than less.

Insurance Coverage

If your hair loss has a medical cause, your insurance may cover the cost of your wig. Illinois law now requires most insurance plans to cover one wig per year for qualifying conditions including alopecia, chemotherapy, radiation, and others.

Ferdinand's has an established NPI number and handles all documentation required for your reimbursement claim. You pay at the time of purchase and submit the paperwork to your insurer directly. We take care of everything on our end so you don't have to figure it out alone.

Common Questions

Which consultation should I book, standard or extended?

Standard 60 minutes suits most new customers finding their first wig. Book the 90-minute Extended if you are managing a medical condition, significant thinning, or will need a full cranial prosthesis. If you are unsure, book the Extended. We would rather have more time than less.

I'm starting chemotherapy soon. How fast can you help?

Many customers leave the same day in the right wig. About half of our solutions are special orders, which usually arrive within a week. Tell us your timeline when you book and we will plan around it.

Do you work with people who have alopecia?

Yes. Alopecia is one of the conditions the Extended Consultation is built for. We will talk through cap construction, fit, and long-term options at your pace, with no pressure to decide in one visit.

My hair is thinning from a medication. Should I come in?

You are welcome anytime, and you are also welcome to wait. If the loss may be temporary, a medical prosthesis is something you can set aside if your hair grows back. We can also give you language to discuss a prescription with your physician, since medication-related loss can affect recovery and adherence.

Will I need a full cranial prosthesis or a custom piece?

Possibly, and that is exactly what the Extended Consultation is for. We will assess fit and coverage in person and build a plan around your situation. There is nothing to decide before you arrive.
